Canadian Pure Wild Rice - Canada's Finest

How to Clean and Prep Wild Rice:

The simple way to clean wild rice is to place it in a strainer and run cold water through it.  Alternatively, for a more thorough clean, pour boiling water over the rice and let sit for ten minutes.  Then drain and cook.

Ingredient Ratio

1 cup wild rice        2 cups wild rice        3 cups wild rice
4 cups water           9 cups water            12 cups water
1 tsp salt                 2 tsp salt                    2 tsp salt

*1 cup of uncooked wild rice yields 5 cups of cooked wild rice.

How to Cook Wild Rice
Method #1: Pot boiling
Combine rice, water and salt in a heavy saucepan.  Bring to a boil, cover and simmer over low heat for approximately 45 minutes, until the rice has opened and fluffed out.  Remove cover, stir, cover and let sit for 15 minutes.  Drain any excess water.

Method #2: Oven baking
Combine rice, water and salt in a casserole dish or roasting pan.  Place in oven at 350 degrees F for 1.5 hours.  Remove from oven, stir and let stand for 15 minutes.
For a slower cook, bake at 200 degrees F for 2.5 hours.  This method will make the wild rice the most puffy.

How to Freeze Wild Rice
Cook the wild rice according to above instructions.  Cool immediately and put in plastic freezer bags, removing the air.  Freeze.  It’s very convenient to have cooked wild rice in the freezer.  Greatly decreases the cooking time of most dishes.
